Stephan Duparc
MD, Chief Medical Officer, Medicines for Malaria Venture, Switzerland
Stephan Duparc received his medical degree in 1991 from the Faculty of Medicine Pitié-Salpêtrière, Paris, France. He also holds a degree in tropical medicine from Cochin Port-Royal University Hospital (1990), and a specialist degree in parasitology (pathology and parasitic immunology), from the Faculty of Medicine Pitié-Salpêtrière. In 1992, he obtained his post-graduate degree in host-parasite interactions from University of Créteil Medical School.
From 1992 to 1996, he was Clinical Research Manager (Artemether study), Rhone-Poulenc Rorer DOMA, Antony, France. From 1996 to 2001, he worked at SmithKline Beecham International, Nanterre, France, as Medical Adviser for Africa.
In 2001, he moved to GlaxoSmithKline R&D International, Brentford in the UK as Senior Clinical Research Physician, Diseases of the Developing World (DDW). From 2002 to 2007, he was Director, DDW, Infectious Diseases R&D Europe, based in Greenford, UK.
Since May 2007, he has been with MMV, as Medical Director, then Chief Medical Officer. He is responsible for the medical aspects of all ongoing studies, in particular for the safety of the drugs developed by MMV. He also provides medical support to all projects from early stage clinical trials to drug filing and registration. He provides medical expertise and medical governance by creating and reinforcing relationships with key opinion leaders from academia, the pharmaceutical industry, the WHO and other international organizations.
